We will invite participation in events, programs and experiences that bring us together to enhance our quality of life.
What do you think we should do specifically to act on this vision?
The Strategic Vision set by Nixa City Council lays the groundwork for our 5-year strategic plan. Now we need to define the specific action steps we should take to fulfill this vision by 2025.
To figure out what action steps we should take, we are inviting everyone to participate in a 90-day community-wide brainstorm which we are calling "Imagine Nixa."
Your input will help determine how the vision becomes reality.
City leaders want your input across the 6 forums of discussion:
Please add your comments to the discussion forums, "like" comments and ideas posted by others, or add your idea to the brainstorm!
You are NOT limited to just the discussion topics you see within the forums. Click on the "Add My Topic Idea" tab within each forum to tell us what you think we should be discussing.
Please keep the conversation constructive. Be civil with your neighbors as we discuss how we can be better!

What is happening with property all along Crimson Ave. behind Kum and Go off Highway 14 on East edge of Nixa. I have lived in Tiffany Highlands for nearly 20 yrs and it continues to sit idle. Is it commercial or residential? And is widening of Highway 14 to Ozark going to happen?

There is nothing currently happening on that property behind the Kum and Go on Crimson, no permit applications have been filed. It is zoned commercial and is available for future commercial development. The widening of 14 all the way to Ozark is still a priority for MODOT funding, but the Highway 14 widening projects (Phase 1: From 160 to Nicholas, Phase 2: From 160 past Main St to Crimson, Phase 3: From Crimson to Ozark) have been delayed by coronavirus and associated funding issues. Phase 1 should still get underway later in 2020. At this time we are not sure when the other phases would begin construction. These are all MODOT projects, therefore the City government is kind of along for the ride regarding timing. - Drew Douglas | Public Information Officer

Read an article in CC Headliner about rezoning property on 14 & Shangra La. Said not rezoned to commercial because it doesn’t fit into Nixa’s masterplan.
1. What is Nixa’s masterplan? This property has sat vacant since 1991? 19 years of lost commercial revenue to Nixa. Obviously no-one wants to build a home there since it’s been there that long. Will it still be there 19 years from now.
2. Knowing this masterplan might generate more brainstorming ideas as to whether this plan is good and/or working. Maybe someone has an idea about how to improve this master plan.

According to the current comprehensive plan (which was written in 2003 with updates in 2006, and which can be viewed on our website here), highway 14 is identified as a commercial corridor. However, City Council listened to residents in the area who did not want the property at Shangri La to be zoned commercial and council therefore decided to let that particular parcel remain zoned residential.
As to the second part of your question, this Imagine Nixa website is intended as a way for us to gain public input for the next 20-year comprehensive plan which we will begin developing later this year, as well as serving as a public discussion forum to identify specific action steps to be included in the 5-year strategic plan which we will unveil this fall.
We encourage anyone to take a look at the current comprehensive plan and to provide their ideas for improving and updating it here. Those ideas will then be considered as we begin the process of updating the comprehensive plan. There will also be other opportunities for public input into the comprehensive plan forthcoming. Stay tuned to the city's communications for updates about those opportunities.

Who is on the strategic planning team? Is it only the city and school district?

We have not yet determined who will be on the advisory committee. The advisory committee will be assisted and supported by city staff. If you are interested in serving on the advisory committee, please contact City Administrator Jimmy Liles at jliles@nixa.com.
This strategic planning process is only for the City of Nixa municipal government, not the Nixa Public Schools. The school system is a separate organization and they conduct their own separate strategic planning process. - Drew Douglas | Public Information Officer

Why is it that we don’t hear anything about the Solar Farm anymore?

It's probably true that we may not talk about the solar farm as much as we did when it was being built and when it was brand new. What would you like to know about the solar farm? I'm happy to answer any questions you may have about it.
Strategic Vision and Values has finished this stage
Nixa City Council have set the strategic vision. Now we want to collect everyone's ideas for what specific actions we should take to accomplish the vision.
We are calling this phase "Imagine Nixa."
This phase is open from February 11 through June 30 of 2020.
Phase 2: Consider and Analyze Every Idea
Strategic Vision and Values has finished this stage
An advisory committee will consider each idea collected and analyze it by four factors:
Feasibility: Can this idea be accomplished with our resources?
Alignment: Does this idea align with our vision and values?
Impact: Would the impact of this idea be worth the resources required?
Desirability: How much community support does this idea have?
Phase 3: Develop Recommendations
Strategic Vision and Values has finished this stage
The advisory committee will develop a set of recommendations based on the analysis phase.
The recommendations report will be presented to City Council by the end of Summer 2020.
Phase 4: Adopt the Recommendations as Nixa's 2020-2025 Strategic Plan
Strategic Vision and Values has finished this stage
City Council will review the recommendations report and vote to adopt it as the city’s 2020-2025 Strategic Plan in the Fall of 2020.
We will unveil the plan and share it with the public so you can see how your ideas influenced it.
Phase 5: Implement the Strategic Plan
Strategic Vision and Values is currently at this stage
City Council and staff will begin to implement the strategic plan in the Fall of 2020.
Phase 6: Follow-Through and Accountability
this is an upcoming stage for Strategic Vision and Values
Staff will provide updates twice a year on the progress made towards the accomplishment of the strategic plan through 2025. We will show how public input helped shape decisions and outcomes.
